CADA Administrative Office History: The corner of 14th and P Street formerly was the location of "Cordy Manor', a 14 unit state-owned apartment building. Construction of the garage required the added cost of the demolition of this structure. The balance of the site was a state controlled surface parking lot.
The garage and CADA Administrative space consists of 753 parking spaces and 6000 sf of ground floor offices in a five story split ramp structure. It also features photovoltaic panels and electric vehicle parking. The East End Garage was designed by Gordon H. Chong, FAIA and Associates Architect and built by McCarthy Construction. Special attention was given to the style and influence of the historic Dean Apartments (1400 N Street) and Westminster Presbyterian Church (1300 N St.) in the use of smooth Mediterranean concrete finishes, the stone work, and landscaped lattice. In addition particular care was given to the ground floor treatment of the structure recognizing the importance of the pedestrian experience in the Capitol Park Neighborhood The Design-Build cost for the project was $10,033,291. This cost includes architecture and engineering, the installation of photo-voltaic panels, the tenant improvement office build-out, upgrades in exterior finish treatment, and testing, inspection and demolition of the Cordy Manor including asbestos abatement. CADA moved into these offices in January 2000. CADA rental operations and the availability of the board room for community meetings have since contributed to the vibrancy of the street life in the 'heart of the Capitol Park Neighborhood'. |
